On Sunday, 2019 NWSL Shield winners, the North Carolina Courage, defeated Sky Blue FC to close out the 2019 regular season. The 3-2 victory broke the record for the most goals scored in a season and confirmed the Courage as the favorites for the upcoming playoffs.
In the 16th minute, Jessica McDonald opened the scoring her fourth goal of the season. Ten minutes later Carli Lloyd leveled the score for Sky Blue in the 26th minute with an effort from just outside the box that flew into the bottom-right corner.
But the topsy-turvy game continued, the Courage drawing ahead in the 27th minute thanks to a lovely chip from Debinha to give the hosts at 2-1 lead.
