It should be to no one’s surprise that Nicolas Lodeiro has been named the 2016 MLS Newcomer of the Year. Since joining the league at the end of July, Lodeiro has lit up the league with his incredible abilities on and off the ball. His talents were the catalysts of the Sounders‘ sudden rise up the table, eventually landing a 4th seed playoff spot.
Lodeiro won the award ahead of Ola Kamara, Jelle Van Damme and Shkëlzen Gashi with a total of 37% of the vote. Voters are comprised of players, media, and clubs.
