It was a disappointing loss for the New York Red Bulls. After reaching the final last year, Jesse Marsch’s squad would have been hoping to challenge for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup again this year. The Philadelphia Union had other ideas.

The Union hung on to a two-goal lead to squeeze past the Red Bulls, 2-1, who nearly staged an unlikely comeback once they brought on the big guns, including Bradley Wright-Phillips, in the second half. The loss sees New York dumped out of the tournament.
