New York City FC turned up. After going 2-5-4 down the stretch and limping into the postseason, the formerly cream of the MLS crop rediscovered their ruthless brilliance in front of goal to sweep past the Philadelphia Union with relative ease.

With two early goals giving Dome Torrent’s side a comfortable lead, they defended well and countered brilliantly, including for the third, game-ending strike. For the Union, meanwhile, this was very much a sense of deja-vu.
