On Monday the region’s soccer federation, CONCACAF, announced major changes for the 2017/18 Champions League structure. Considered a big step back from the European and South American counterparts, will these changes elevate the competition?
The new structure will kick into effect starting the next cycle, which begins in the second half of 2017. Further more the tournament is being broken into two different phases, with a champion crowned in each.
Phase one will feature 16 clubs from Central America and the Caribbean. It will take place between August and October each year, with the winner advancing to Phase 2.
