An afternoon of records and firsts saw the Impact record their third victory of the season at Saputo Stadium.
The hosts were the first to score as Ignacio Piatti scored his first of the afternoon from the spot. Five minutes later, Diego Chara struck Piatti in the face and was immediately sent off. Thus, the Timbers would play the remaining 70 minutes a man down.
