Bobby Shuttleworth vs. Matt Lampson- Last season, Minnesota United didn’t really have anybody who could challenge Bobby Shuttleworth once John Alvbåge left, as Patrick McLain and Alec Kapp were not starting-caliber. New addition Matt Lampson is a player who could challenge Shuttleworth for starting minutes, which should keep both keepers sharp and focused as they battle for the starting spot.
Sam Nicholson vs. Miguel Ibarra- The battle for the left wing starting spot is one that went on last season as well, once Nicholson arrived from Scotland. Though Adrian Heath gave both players chances to prove themselves throughout the second half of the season, he seemed to favor Nicholson, who seemed like the more dangerous attacking player, but was inconsistent.
