Despite losing in the Eastern Conference final for the second consecutive season, 2015 was a great year for the New York Red Bulls and their supporters. Even though fans were not happy with the decision to fire former head coach, Mike Petke, and bring in Jesse Marsch, the team flourished under his tutelage. The Red Bulls won their second Supporters’ Shield title within three years, all while boasting the lowest payroll in Major League Soccer.
One of the reasons New York was able to do so well, even without spending a ton of cash, is the fact they were able to rely on homegrown players and local talent.
