Lloyd Sam signed with the New York Red Bulls on August 17, 2012. Almost four years later, Sam will be playing for a different team.
Sam was traded to D.C United for general allocation money, to be used in future acquisitions. He has been one of New York’s best players over the last three years. He joined the team while Hans Backe was head coach and struggled to get into the lineup.
Sam was gifted a chance to start when Mike Petke took over as coach. In 2014, he scored four goals and tallied nine assists.
The following year, Jesse Marsch was appointed to run the team.
