Lionel Messi Likely to Miss Match with Injury; Miami 'Don't Want to Take Any Risks'

Inter Miami star Lionel Messi is expected to miss the team's next match after leaving Wednesday's contest with a leg injury.

According ESPN.com, Inter Miami head coach coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino declared that Messi is likely to sit out Saturday's MLS match against D.C. United, saying: "I don't want to take any risks, but I imagine that he won't be available for Saturday's game. That's the only thing I can say about it now. We'll have some tests soon and we'll see how he feels."

Messi tallied a goal and an assist in Inter Miami's 3-1 win over Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup's round of 16 on Wednesday, but Martino noted that when he left the game in the 50th minute, it was due to a "muscle overload in his right leg.
