It’s not everyday that the drafts top player is picked and then traded within a ten minute window. But that’s just what happened to Jack Harrison who was drafted by the Chicago Fire and then traded to New York City FC for a package including the 4th overall pick in the draft and allocation money (per league policy we have no idea how much money actually exchanged hands. The Fire then used the 4th pick to select left back Brandon Vincent out of Stanford.
There were reports that this trade was agreed on before the draft since Jack Harrison spoke about a desire to play for NYC FC prior to the draft and the writing was on the wall that NYC FC would go all out to get their man when their Homegrown claim was (rightfully) denied.
