The Houston Dynamo named forward Giles Barnes their team captain at the beginning of 2016 MLS season. Four months later with then head coach Owen Coyle gone and the captain’s armband passed on to DaMarcus Beasley, the Dynamo traded Barnes late Saturday night to the Western Conference rival Vancouver Whitecaps. In return, Houston received general allocation money and right of first refusal for Costa Rican defender Keyner Brown.
Signed by Houston while on holiday in Monaco back in 2012, Barnes started 108 of 113 Major League Soccer contests scoring 31 goals.. Against all competitions, the Englishman has netted 34 goals for the Dynamo.
