For the better part of ten years now the word expansion a keyword throughout the MLS fan base. Just as much as transfers, playoffs, or TV deals, MLS expansion has been a part of the league’s culture. Tuesday marks another key date in that timeline.
With Minnesota and Atlanta joining the MLS in 2017 the league will grow to 22 teams. LA FC will debut in 2018, while the Miami / Beckham expansion project remains both clouded in mystery and full of Don Garber support.
The next cycle of expansion will officially get started after today. Cities and organizations have up through today to submitted formal bids.
