Perhaps the best match of the weekend did not disappoint. As Supporters’ Sheild leaders, Atlanta United, travelled north of the border to face the hottest team in MLS, the Montreal Impact, there was anticipation that this could be a terrific contest. The anticipation was justified.
It was Atlanta that would run out eventual victors thanks to two goals from their most inevitable source, but Montreal pushed them hard, scoring late on thanks to a vicious Ignacio Piatti strike that nearly swung the pendulum in their favour. Ultimately, though, in this tantalising affair, Atlanta had enough to hold on.
