Atlanta United fell to D.C. United 3-1 in the nation’s capital on Sunday night. D.C. continues to be Atlanta’s kryptonite and the loss keeps Atlanta in second place in both the Supporters’ Shield standings and the Eastern Conference standings behind the New York Red Bulls. Fortunately, Atlanta still have a game in hand on New York and also have a higher points-per-game.
Atlanta’s performance against D.C. was unsettling. The team played well in the first half, save for a minor defensive breakdown that led to Luciano Acosta’s first goal for D.C.. The second half, however, was a different story for the Five Stripes.
