Yankees' Nestor Cortes 'Upset' over Relief Role, Calls Himself 'The Workhorse' for NY

Nestor Cortes did what was required of him to help the New York Yankees defeat the Chicago Cubs on Saturday by pitching out of the bullpen, but he wasn't happy he was asked to do so.

He said he was "upset" he was placed in the bullpen for his first relief appearance since 2021, per ESPN.

"Obviously I was upset," Cortes said. "I felt like I've been, amongst all the starters, the workhorse here. Once [Gerrit] Cole went down, they picked me to be the Opening Day starter—not necessarily the No. 1, but the Opening Day starter.
