Every offseason there are a few signings that don’t quite make sense. Last season, it was the New York Mets signing Michael Cuddyer to a two-year, $24 million contract in early November.
The Toronto Blue Jays signed J.A. Happ for three years and $36 million and became an early candidate for the most confusing signing of the offseason. Happ played for the Jays from 2013-14, before being traded for Michael Saunders last offseason.
There are a few reasons this signing stands out as not a particularly good one. First, this season’s free agent class is ripe with pitching talent.
