Shohei Ohtani leaves after 2 ineffective innings with blister

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Shohei Ohtani's highly anticipated start against the Boston Red Sox lasted only two innings. The two-way Japanese phenom developed a blister on his pitching hand and gave up three runs and required 66 pitches to record the first six outs in front of a sold-out crowd at Angel Stadium on Tuesday night.

In a tweet, the Angels said it was the blister, not Ohtani's performance that led to the early hook.

Ohtani, who had surrendered only three runs in the first 13 innings of his Major League career, began the game by giving up a leadoff homer to Mookie Betts.
