Dodgers' Mookie Betts out for Yankees series with toe injury

LOS ANGELES -- Mookie Betts was out of the Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup Friday against the New York Yankees and will miss the rest of the series, according to manager Dave Roberts, after injuring his toe at home Wednesday night.

Roberts, speaking after his team's series-opening 8-5 win, said he does not believe an IL stint will be necessary. Before the game, he described Betts' status as "day-to-day," noting that "putting on a shoe today was difficult for him."

Betts, who underwent X-rays at Dodger Stadium before first pitch, told the Los Angeles Times that he has a fractured toe but expects to be back in a couple of days.
