Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Corbin Burnes will undergo Tommy John surgery, manager Torey Lovullo announced Friday.
Burnes left his start Sunday against the Washington Nationals after calling out for the trainer in the fifth inning. The Diamondbacks then placed the right-hander on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday while seeking a second opinion on the elbow.
In his first season in Arizona, Burnes is 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts. The 30-year-old spent the first six years of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers and was named the NL Cy Young Award winner in 2021.
