MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Want 3rd Baseman, Royals Expected To Sell And Dodgers' Plans

The MLB trade deadline isn't for nearly two months, but there are already several notable rumors floating around. That includes who could be dealt and which teams are ready to buy and sell. Here are all the latest MLB trade rumors from the hot stove you need to know.

Yankees Want 3rd Baseman
The Yankees have already made infield moves at the Triple-A level involving Ruben Tejada (traded to Orioles) and top prospect Gleyber Torres (promoted), but they are also looking for help at the major league level. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes that the Yankees are "shopping for a third baseman." The Yankees are currently starting Chase Headley, who has struggled this year and is hitting just .227.

While Cafardo doesn't mention any names, NJ.com suggests Kansas City's Mike Moustakas, Todd Frazier of the White Sox and Pittsburgh's David Freese as potential targets. Both Moustakas and Frazier will be free agents after this year.

Royals Will Listen To Offers
With a 24-31 record that is tied for last in the AL Central, the expectation is that the Royals will listen trade offers, per Cafardo.

"They will start listening to overtures for Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain and Jason Vargas," Cafardo writes. "There really is nothing else for them to do, and while they entered Friday only six games out of first place, they have a few teams to climb over and they can’t sign most of their free agents-to-be. The Royals’ window has come and gone."

Meanwhile, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports that other teams are getting ready to make moves for several Royals players via trades.

"Yet across the league, teams in contention have already started circling, sending scouts to inspect the Royals in person, looking for possible fits before the trade deadline on July 31," Dodd writes. "The interest is not unexpected. The Royals’ list of prospective free agents is deep and varied, ranging from franchise linchpins such as Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain, to intriguing arms like Jason Vargas and Mike Minor, to declining former All-Stars like shortstop Alcides Escobar. The pure quantity, if not unprecedented, has compelled opposing clubs to view the Royals with a combination of curiosity and empathy."

Because most deals don't go down until after the All-Star Break in July, the Royals can be patient. But it seems like the Royals will be sellers at the deadline this year.

Dodgers Want Starting Pitching Help
Sticking with Cafardo, the Los Angeles Dodgers are targeting pitching help this offseason. Cafardo writes that "most talent evaluators think they’ll make a play for the top available starter." It's not quite clear who that pitcher will be, but Cafardo throws out Ervin Santana of the Twins, the Rays' Chris Archer and Jeremy Hellickson of the Phillies as potential options.

The Dodgers rotation has posted a 3.94 ERA so far this year, but the starters have battled injuries. They also have a left-handed heavy rotation.
