MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Interested In Two Mets Players, Royals Targeting Gordon & More

The MLB Trade Deadline is fast approaching on July 31, and as a result, trade rumors are flying across the league as talks heat up. Contenders are starting to separate themselves, creating more of a sense of urgency in some of these negotiations. Here are all the latest MLB trade rumors you need to know from the hot stove.

Yankees interested in pair of Mets players
The New York Yankees are looking to find upgrades for their bullpen and at first base before the deadline had have talked to the New York Mets about acquiring Lucas Duda and Addison Reed, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com:

Both Duda and Reed will be free agents at the end of the season, meaning the Yankees could get them for relatively cheap. They have also been in discussions with the Oakland A's about acquiring first baseman Yonder Alonso.

Duda is batting .248 with 16 home runs and 34 RBIs in 66 games this year, while Reed has a 2.47 ERA with 15 saves and 45 strikeouts in 43.2 innings in 42 appearances

Royals targeting Dee Gordon
The Kansas City Royals have placed an emphasis on upgrading their starting pitching, but are also extremely interested in Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports:

It shouldn’t have been a shock to see the Royals linked to Dee Gordon. They have needed a better lead-off hitter for years, and according to one person in the know “have long been enamored” of Gordon, the son of retired Royals star Tom Gordon. Of course, the Royals (or any other team) would want the Marlins to significantly pay down the $40 million or so remaining on Gordon’s rather high contract, and the Marlins have never been anxious to do that.

Gordon is batting .294 with 19 RBIs and 32 stolen bases in 89 games so far this season.

Cubs showing interest in five pitchers
The Chicago Cubs acquired star pitcher Jose Quintana in a trade with the Chicago White Sox, but they are still looking to add another quality starting pitcher.

Chicago wants to upgrade their starting pitching and find long-term replacements for Jake Arrieta and John Lackey, both of whom will be free agents this offseason. As such, they have expressed interest in five players, according to Peter Gammons of Gammonsdaily.com.

They need starting pitching; their starters are 29-33, 4.66. They need controllable starting pitching, since Jake Arrieta and John Lackey will be gone at the end of the season.

They called the Tigers on Michael Fulmer, not available. They checked in on Chris Archer, and were told the Rays think they can make the playoffs and inch closer to a real ballpark. Marcus Stroman would have cost them a player off their major league roster, Gerrit Colewas not available without players off their major league roster. The Athletics talked to them about Sonny Gray, but they preferred Quintana’s consistency, not to mention his contract.

Quintana makes $8.35M in 2018 with options the next two seasons at $10.5M and $11.5M. “Look at the market and look at what’s going to be available and given our need for starting pitching next season, how were we going to build a staff?” said one Cub official. “This is for this season, but it’s for ensuing seasons.”

The Cubs just parted with many of their top prospects for Quintana, so it's unlikely that they would be willing to part with even more highly-ranked players in their system. Kyle Schwarber's name has also been rumored to be on the block.

Chicago is currently 47-45 and trail the Milwaukee Brewers by 3.5 games in the division.
