MLB Trade Rumors: 5 World Series Contenders That Need To Buy Before The 2019 Deadline

MLB Trade deadline on July 31st is just over 24 hours away & there are numerous MLB trade rumors surrounding some of the biggest names in the MLB, including Will Smith, Noah Syndergaard, Mike Minor, Robbie Ray, Yasiel Puig, Jose Abreu & Nicholas Castellanos. The MLB trade deadline is typically for World Series contenders to improve their teams by shoring up any remaining weaknesses while the non-playoff contenders give up any assets they still have & tank out the rest of their season. That’s exactly what is happening in 2019.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Cleveland Indians & Chicago Cubs are 5 teams who are looking to make a move before the trade deadline in hopes of making a postseason run for the World Series title. The Dodgers are easily the best team in the NL, but they could use some help in the bullpen if they want to make a postseason run. They haven’t won a World Series since 1988. The Yankees are in a similar situation. They have had a great year thus far, but they need to solidify their pitching if they want to add another World Series to their long list of accolades.  They could be in the running for the best pitchers on the market, including Mike Minor, Noah Syndergaard & Madison Bumgarner, who has proven he can make things happen in the postseason.

The Houston Astros have one of the deepest lineups in baseball & have a great 1-2 combo in Justin Verlander & & Gerrit Cole. The Stros don’t necessarily need to make any moves to improve their chances of winning a World Series, but if they can add a 3rd pitcher they will be a scary team to go 7 games with once October rolls around. The Cleveland Indians could use some offensive help if they want to capitalize on their window to win it all. It is definitely closing & with a major league best record since the start of June, the time to make a move is now.

Finally, the Chicago Cubs are in a tight race in the NL central & they could use some help on the mound & in the box if they want to make yet another deep postseason run. They spent a lot of money this offseason, so will they want to make a run for a pitcher such as Texas Rangers’ pitcher Mike Minor who is playing at an elite level? The Cubs have expressed interest in Nicholas Castellanos, so will they try to improve their sticks? Chat Sports host Mitchell Renz walks you through the top 5 World Series contenders & what kind of trades they need to make if they want to improve their team before making a run in October.
