MLB Rumors: Chris Archer Unlikely To Be Traded, Phillies Interested In Arrieta, & Twins Interested In Lance Lynn

It's March 2nd and spring training is here, and baseball is in the air. The MLB regular season is right around the corner, yet several of the league's biggest names remained unsigned. Some like pitcher Jake Arrieta may be on the move sooner rather than later while the trade market cools off. Here are the latest MLB news and rumors you need to know:

Phillies interested in Jake Arrieta
While the Washington Nationals have been the team most linked to Arrieta, the Philadelphia Phillies also have a chance to sign him, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

The Phillies would appear to have a chance to sign Jake Arrieta. Though there’s been a difference in years, the love Phillies people have for Arrieta – whom they drafted and developed while he and they were in Baltimore – may be a big factor. It will be interesting to see what Arrieta ends up with, but president Andy MacPhail, GM Matt Klentak and exec Joe Jordan (who was the scouting director in Baltimore who drafted him) all are admirers.

Arrieta reportedly turned down an offer from the Chicago Cubs that was similar to the six-year, $126 million deal Yu Darvish signed with the club. He went 14-10 with a 3.53 ERA in 30 starts for the Cubs last season.

Rays unlikely to trade Chris Archer
The Tampa Bay Rays have been fielding offers for pitcher Chris Archer for the past two seasons but haven't dealt him in that time. Why? Their asking price is so high that it's driving a lot of teams away and is why they're unlikely to trade him, according to Heyman.

One team that’s talked to the Rays predicts, “No way they trade Chris Archer.” And how do you know? “They wanted our whole farm system.”

Archer was 10-12 with a 4.07 ERA in 34 starts last season.

Twins interested in Lance Lynn
The Minnesota Twins have expressed interest in signing pitcher Lance Lynn to a two-year deal between $10 million and $12 million, according to ESPN 1500’s Darren Wolfson.

Lynn went 11-8 with a 3.43 ERA in 33 starts for the St. Louis Cardinals last season.
