MLB Power Rankings: Red Sox, Yankees Battling For Top Spot In Rankings

We're already over a month into the MLB season and there has already been a good deal of surprises. The Boston Red Sox continue to cement themselves as the team to beat thanks to an incredibly fast start and an MVP season from Mookie Betts, while the New York Yankees have also been surging of late.

How do the 30 teams in the league stack up against each other this early in the season? Here are our current MLB Power Rankings:

30) Cincinnati Reds (8-27)
Cincinnati ranks in the bottom six in every major statistical category in the league and is on pace to earn a top-five pick for the fourth straight year.

29) Kansas City Royals (11-23)
Outside of Jorge Soler, Kansas City's offense has largely been non-existent. We knew they'd be bad, particularly at scoring runs, and that has proven to be true.

28) Miami Marlins (13-21)
The Marlins went into this season knowing they were going to essentially put a minor league team on the field every night and they've done that - and have the results that show it.

27) Chicago White Sox (9-23)
The White Sox scored 14 runs on Opening Day. Since they, they're averaging less than three runs per game.

26) Baltimore Orioles (8-25)
Baltimore has allowed an .810 OPS as a team this season, which is absolutely terrible from their pitching staff. It also doesn't help that Manny Machado is the only player they can rely on.

25) San Diego Padres (13-23)
The Padres have been better than expected early this season and Franchy Cordero looks like he could turn into a star in the future...but that - and San Diego's success - is still in the future.

24) Detroit Tigers (14-20)
Detroit has been largely inconsistent this season, which is to be expected from a team that's rebuilding.

23) Texas Rangers (14-23)
Texas is just 6-15 at home this season and rank among the bottom four teams in the league in opponents slugging average and WHIP. They won't improve until their pitching does.

22) Minnesota Twins (14-17)
The Twins have struggled late in games early the season. Closer Fernando Rodney has already blown three saves this season.

21) Tampa Bay Rays (15-27)
The Rays are starting to find their rhythm after an absolutely dreadful start, posting a top-five winning percentage since April 15. Can they continue that upward trend?

20) Oakland A's (18-17)
Oakland has played well above their talent level this season, ranking in the top 10 in runs, batting average, and slugging percentage. However, they're stuck around .500 because of their lackluster pitching.

19) New York Mets (18-15)
The Mets are just the 22nd team in the World Series era (since 1903) to start the season with an 11-1 record. They've now lost 13 of their last 19 games.

18) Toronto Blue Jays (19-16)
The Blue Jays have been one of the surprise teams of the year thanks to their offense, which ranks in the top six in runs and slugging percentage.

17) Los Angeles Dodgers (15-19)
The Dodgers have been decimated by injury to this point in the season and Clayton Kershaw is going to the DL. Can they hold steady until they get healthy or will this season spiral out of control?

16) San Francisco Giants (19-16)
San Francisco had wildcard expectations and this start certainly isn't doing them any favors. You need to score runs to win games and the Giants have had one of the league's worst offenses.

15) Pittsburgh Pirates (19-16)
The Pirates have gotten off to a great start behind an offense that ranks in the top 12 in every major hitting category. However, their pitching indicates that they can't keep this pace up. Will they?

14) Philadelphia Phillies (19-15)
The rebuild is still ongoing in Philly but there is plenty of reason for optimism. They are getting more production from players 25 years old and younger than any other club.

13) Seattle Mariners (19-14)
Robinson Cano looks like an MVP candidate early in the season as Seattle's offense has carried their lackluster pitching, but we've seen this movie from the Mariners before. Is it actually sustainable?

12) Colorado Rockies (20-15)
Colorado has won eight of their last 11 games and they have more wins on the road (15) than any other team. Why? Their pitching staff is carrying them as opposed to their offense.

11) Milwaukee Brewers (20-15)
Milwaukee's pitching staff has been one of the best of the league so far, ranking second in quality starts and fourth in ERA (3.40).

10) Atlanta Braves (19-14)
Atlanta has the best run differential in the NL and is all alone in first place in the NL East for the first time in three years. They've been one of the best stories of the opening month.

9) Washington Nationals (19-17)
Bryce Harper has been dominant in the leadoff spot as the Nationals continue to showcase their solid, all-around play. They'll win the division again (despite what we're seeing from Atlanta) - the verdict on this team won't be issued until the postseason.

8) Cleveland Indians (17-17)
Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez are finally starting to play better after an incredibly slow start to the season. Still, this team has all of the key pieces from the teams that have been so good over the past two years. They'll be fine.

7) Chicago Cubs (17-15)
Yes, the Cubs have one of the best lineups in baseball but their rotation has let them down to this point - though, again, that's not something that's expected to continue with all the talent they have.

6) St. Louis Cardinals (20-13)
Few teams are playing better than the Cards right now as they're coming off a great sweep of the Cubs and five of their last six games overall.

5) Arizona Diamondbacks (23-11)
Paul Goldschmidt and A.J. Pollock are killing teams in the heart of their order as the Diamondbacks have been getting quality pitching as well. They rank in the top three in the league in every major pitching category.

4) Houston Astros (22-15)
The champs haven't been dominant to start the season as we've expected, but they've had great outings from their top-end starters and lead the league in every major pitching category. However, their offense has been inconsistent.

3) Los Angeles Angels (21-13)
The Angels have gotten off to the best start in franchise history behind Mike Trout doing things only the best player in baseball can do and Shohei Ohtani doing wonders in the batter's box and on the mound. They look like a legitimate threat in the American League.

2) New York Yankees (24-10)
The Yankees are suddenly red shot after getting consistent offense, winning 15 of their last 16 games. In doing so, they've cut Boston's lead in the division from 7.5 games to one.

1) Boston Red Sox (25-9)
Boston had all the pieces to make a World Series run last season if they played consistent baseball. Well, they're playing consistent baseball right now and are getting dominant play from pretty much everyone on their roster. This week's series against New York will be very telling about who is the best team in the league right now.
