Athletics Trade 1B Yonder Alonso To Mariners

The first major deal of the MLB waiver trade period has been competed. The Oakland Athletics have sent first baseman Yonder Alonso to the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners announced the trade on Twitter.

Ken Rosenthal reports the Mariners claimed Alonso when the A's put him on waivers. The two sides were then able to reach a deal for Alonso.

He's just a rental, but Alonso is having the best season of his career. He's hitting .266 with 49 RBis and an already-career high 22 home runs.
