4 MLB Rumors You Need To Know For Jan. 17th

We're just over a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting, and there's still several impact names out there in the MLB free agency and trade markets. We're here to take a look at the latest from the MLB Hot Stove madness with the 4 MLB Rumors You Need To Know For January 17th.

Potential Cubs-Rays Trade?
A deal between the Chicago Cubs and the Tampa Bay Rays has been rumored many times before, but The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo has more details on the potential trade. Cafardo writes the Cubs could land either Jake Odorizzi or Alex Cobb if they are willing to deal Javier Baez or Jorge Soler. The Cubs need pitching, but are very high on both hitters. Still, adding a young pitcher under control will help their World Series chances.

Yoenis Cespedes Garning Interest?
Several big names are off the market, but OF Yoenis Cespedes has yet to sign with a team. That might not be true much longer.

While Cespedes may be close to a deal, Heyman doesn't specify which team it could be. The Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets and Chicago White Sox have all been linked to Cespedes.

Big Name OFs Available?
Carfardo says a few well-known outfielders could be on the block. He mentions Dodgers OF Andre Either, Brewers OF Ryan Braun and Rangers OF Josh Hamilton as players that can be had. Carfardo says the Brewers "would love a taker" for Braun and his contract and that the Dodgers would be willing to pick up some of Either's salary.

David Freese To Red Sox?
The Red Sox have Pablo Sandoval at third base, but could be interested in David Freeze if no one adds him. Carfardo is surprised no one has added Freeze yet and says the Red Sox could add Freeze if he lasts until Spring Training.
