2014 Gillette Home Run Derby: Puig, Cespedes headline Tuesday's selections

The 2014 Gillette Home Run Derby, live from Minnesota's Target Field on Monday, July 14, is shaping up to be one of the most star-studded competitions in the event's history.

AL captain Jose Bautista and NL captain Troy Tulowitzki each revealed three of their four teammates for the interleague clash on SportsCenter Tuesday afternoon - with Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig headlining what will be an amazing night in the Twin Cities.

Voted in as a starter for the first All-Star Game appearance of his young career, Puig's 12 home runs as of the beginning of play on Tuesday would seem to indicate at first glance that he's not a traditional slugger of the home run-launching sort.

However, one look at Puig's raw athleticism and power in both batting practice and live play gives all the reasoning necessary for such a dynamic young superstar to be a part of the Derby.

Puig will join captain Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies, NL home run leader Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins, and Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier on the National League side.

AL captain Jose Bautista will counter with 2013 Home Run Derby champion Yoenis Cespedes of the Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones, and Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier.

The last competitor for each squad will be announced on Thursday.

Coverage of Monday's proceedings will begin at 8:00pm EST on ESPN and MLB.com. For additional information about the Home Run Derby and the rest of the goings-on at Target Field next week, please visit allstargame.com.
