There’s an argument for the word rivalry. Wikipedia has an entry for precisely that, recounting some of the most notable matchups and the disappearance of the Tiger-Sooner Peace Pipe in the 1970s.
However, in the 96 meetings between the schools, MU has only won 24 games while losing 67 and tying five. There was a losing streak that spanned 14 years. That lopsidedness precludes the presence of a legitimate rivalry in the eyes of some.
Relevant too is that both schools would certainly list other opponents as their most hated — Kansas for the Tigers, Texas for the Sooners.
