Why Mizzou coaches are taking responsibility for fixing pass coverage issues

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The metaphorical straw that broke the camel’s back was a broken coverage.

Up four points on Louisiana State with just over three minutes left in the game, LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers scored a walk-in game-winning touchdown when he was left uncovered at the pylon 30 yards downfield.

He ran a well-executed route, banking toward the sideline on an out pattern before a second move to turn upfield. But no Mizzou defender followed him — one stayed in the flat with eyes on LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels while two defensive backs followed another receiver’s post route inside.
