Vashon guard Mario McKinney, a local talent with a last name familiar to Missouri fans, became the latest area recruit to commit to Martin at Mizzou, announcing his verbal pledge on social media Monday. He becomes the first member of MU’s 2019 recruiting class and the fifth player from the area to pick Mizzou since Martin was hired 18 months ago.
McKinney posted a two-minute video on Twitter featuring highlight clips of his high school career, ending with footage of of his older cousin, former Missouri guard Jimmy McKinney, who played for the Tigers from 2002-06. McKinney holds a framed photo of the former Tiger in the video's final shot.
