Tigers have two tales: Offense deep, defense retooling as camp opens

COLUMBIA, MO. • As Missouri’s offensive coordinator, Josh Heupel faces a different challenge these next three weeks from his defensive counterpart, DeMontie Cross. Preseason camp began Tuesday for an offense that returns 10 starters from the 2016 team, which led the Southeastern Conference in yards per game.

That doesn’t mean Heupel will spend his August days sipping lemonade and working on his tan. But for the most part, his starting lineup is set. The offense can devote the preseason to building on last year’s success, especially the promising three-game stretch to end the season.
