Purdue (1-1) has produced just one winning record in the eight years since Joe Tiller stepped down after the 2008 season and hasn’t played in a bowl game since 2012. But there’s a new sense of optimism in West Lafayette, Ind., with the arrival of first-year coach Jeff Brohm. Brohm, a former quarterback and offensive assistant at Louisville, has always been associated with prolific offenses as both a player and coach, including the last three seasons as Western Kentucky’s head coach. Under Brohm’s watch from 2014-16, the Hilltoppers were 30-10 and ranked among the nation’s most explosive offenses. With a combination of spread and pro-style formations mixed with dizzying shifts, motions and misdirection, WKU averaged 44.
