The NCAA took a step towards being able to expand the NCAA Tournament this past week. Ross Dellenger was the first to report, but the news quickly went through the normal NCAA beat writers. And here’s what we know:
The NCAA Conference Commissions met at their annual conference in Naples, Florida this past week. During that conference, Dan Gavitt (the Vice President for the men’s NCAA Championship) unveiled a few different plans for tournament expansion.
The plans revealed were for an expansion to 72 and to 76 teams, up from 68. Currently there were no plans to expand the length of the tournament, instead just relying on expanding the play-in games.
