COLUMBIA, Mo. — Jennifer Heismeyer still remembers the phone call from her doctor in January of 2019.
Drake, the youngest of her two boys and a junior at Francis Howell High School at the time, sat right next to her, but he was unaware of what was being said on the other end. Jennifer quickly left the room to call her husband. She didn’t know how to tell Drake that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I said, ‘It’s ok to be scared, but I’m going to tell you it’s not going to change anything and we’re going to be fine,’” Jennifer told Drake.
