Mizzou swimming surges to Omaha, with eyes on Olympics

COLUMBIA, MO. • National champion wrestler J’Den Cox won’t be the only Mizzou athlete in Rio for the Summer Olympics, especially if things go right for the Tigers’ swimmers at next week’s U.S. Olympic Trials.

A breakthrough year for Mizzou swimming could get much better in Omaha, Neb., where more than two dozen former and current Tigers will compete for spots on the Olympic team. Most are long shots, but not junior Michael Chadwick, who will use Monday’s 100-meter backstroke to get acclimated to the pool and starting blocks before he swims his specialty events later in the week, the 50- and 100-meter freestyles.
