COLUMBIA, MO. • First-year coach Steve Bieser knows better than to draw too many conclusions from the Missouri baseball team’s 7-1 start. The Tigers have won seven straight games heading into Bieser’s debut series at Taylor Stadium this weekend, but he recognizes the schedule will get more daunting when Southeastern Conference play gets started.
But there was plenty to like about Mizzou’s 4-0 run at last week’s Kleberg Bank College Classic in Texas, where the Tigers beat nationally ranked Houston, swept two from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and rallied against Illinois. Nonconference slip-ups in February and March have tarnished Mizzou’s credentials in past seasons.
