Mizzou files NCAA sanctions appeal

Missouri took the first step in its fight against recent NCAA sanctions and filed its appeal to the NCAA's Infractions Appeals Committee on Thursday, the athletics department announced.

Earlier in the week, athletics director Jim Sterk said he didn't expect to appeal the probation sentence and the vacation of wins but would appeal the postseason bans for the baseball, football and softball teams along with recruiting restrictions and scholarship reductions.

“We believe that the Committee on Infractions abused its discretion in applying penalties to the University of Missouri Athletics program, and we look forward to appearing before the Appeals Committee in the future to present our case,” Sterk said.
