COLUMBIA, Mo. • In a showdown of nationally ranked in-state teams, No. 14 Missouri couldn’t hold a four-run lead over No. 15 Missouri State and lost 9-8 Tuesday night at Taylor Stadium. It was the first meeting between the state schools when both have been nationally ranked and left the all-time series tied at 25-25.
A win could have proved valuable for the Tigers’ postseason credentials as Missouri State (28-9) came into Tuesday’s game with the nation’s No. 12 RPI rating; Mizzou (26-15) was at No. 38.
The Tigers still share first place in the SEC East but continue to confound with midweek struggles.
