Memories of Mizzou's Bazelak in the wishbone offense that shaped him

COLUMBIA, Mo. — There’s at least one example of Mizzou’s by-the-book quarterback Connor Bazelak straying from the plan. Naturally, he engineered it to perfection.

It was November 2018, and he was a senior at Archbishop Alter High School piloting his team in the Ohio state semifinals. Leading 14-6 late in the third quarter, the defense had just recovered a crucial fumble, and Bazelak strolled onto the field to start from his own 7-yard line.

Alter is coached by Ed Domsitz, who has coached in the Dayton area for 45 years. He still runs the old-fashioned wishbone offense, characterized by tight formations, an under-center quarterback and a lot of running.
