COLUMBIA, MO. • As the calendar gets a day closer to the start of preseason camp, we continue our look at the most important figures for Mizzou’s defense in 2018. Today, a break from the players and a closer view of the man at the controls of the defense come Saturdays this fall, newly promoted coordinator and secondary coach Ryan Walters.
Walters took on a larger role early last season when Barry Odom fired coordinator DeMontie Cross, but Odom resumed duties as the chief play-caller on defense. Odom officially promoted Walters to the coordinator position before the Texas Bowl then relented the play-calling assignment to Walters this offseason.
