He was thrown into the breach when starting quarterback Maty Mauk was suspended after four games — as it has turned out, that suspension eventually became a dismissal — and Lock predictably struggled. He completed just 49 percent of his passes, and he finished the season with 1,332 yards, four TDs and eight interceptions.
In his eight starts, he completed at least half his passes just twice, and only in his first start — against South Carolina — did he throw more TD passes than picks (two to none).
New offensive coordinator Josh Heupel told The Associated Press that he’s not sure Lock was as ready as he needed to be.
