Iowa storms to first national wrestling championship since 2010

The Iowa Hawkeyes wrapped up their 24th NCAA Division I wrestling championship during the medal round Saturday afternoon at Enterprise Center in St. Louis.

That’s was before Iowa’s first two finalists on Saturday night — previously unbeaten Jaydin Eierman and Michael Kemerer — came up short. But in the final match of the night, at 125 pounds, Iowa’s Spencer Lee capped the season with his third NCAA championship via a 7-0 victory.

The Hawkeyes finished the weekend with 129 points to beat out Big Ten rival Penn State (113½) for the top spot. Oklahoma State (99½), Arizona State (74) and Michigan (69) rounded out the top five.
