COLUMBIA, MO. • Offensive coordinator Josh Heupel became the first person from Missouri’s football program to take questions in the wake of defensive coordinator DeMontie Cross’ firing on Sunday. Heupel had his weekly conference call with reporters on Monday — two hours before coach Barry Odom’s weekly call — and sure enough, Odom’s decision to fire Cross two games into the season came up.
“At the end of the day as assistant coaches we don’t know the particulars of everything,” Heupel said. “We know and trust the decisions Coach Odom and (athletics director) Jim Sterk make are without a doubt 100 percent in the best interests of our players and our program.
