Former Mizzou track assistant files racial discrimination suit against Curators, MU track coach

Former Mizzou track and field assistant Carjay Lyles has filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against MU head track coach Brett Halter, MU associate athletics director Mitzi Clayton and the UM System Board of curators.

Lyles, who is African American and coached at MU from 2013-16, filed the suit Tuesday in Boone County, alleging that the "defendants instituted a continuous practice of exhibiting discriminatory and demeaning behavior toward black athletes and staff members, including (Lyles),” Columbia TV station ABC-17 KMIZ first reported. Lyles now serves as a track assistant at the University of Akron. For four seasons at Mizzou, he coached the team’s sprinters, hurdlers and relay teams.
