College football schedules as we know them could be coming to an end. Realignment and playoff expansion figure to reshape the ways programs build their nonconference schedules every fall. The NCAA recently dropped the requirement to split conferences into divisions, leading the Atlantic Coast Conference to do just that starting in 2023, when ACC teams will play a remodeled eight-game league schedule. The Southeastern Conference, soon home to 16 programs once Oklahoma and Texas join, is still considering a nine-game league schedule, like they play in the Big Ten, Pac-12 and Big 12.
