In the closing seconds of the first half at Wyoming in the season’s first week, the Tigers were a yard away from recapturing all the momentum, but running back Larry Rountree fumbled just shy of the goal line, costing MU a chance to tie the game. Instead, the Cowboys returned the ball almost the length of the field and set up a field goal, good for a 27-17 halftime lead. The Tigers never recovered in a 37-31 loss.
Linebacker Cale Garrett continued his brilliant start to the season in a 42-10 win over Troy that saw the senior captain intercept two passes, one returned for his third defensive touchdown of the year, becoming the second player in team history with three straight games with defensive TDs.
