'You don’t have to do big actions to make a big impact,' official says ahead of River Rescue cleanup

A river cleanup is slated for this weekend, but one official reminds folks that they can take time to “leave no trace” when enjoying the outdoors.

River Rescue cleanup has been going on for years, said Todd Wilkinson, project manager for James River Basin Partnership.

The partnership, along with Ozark Mountain Paddlers, will host the cleanup Saturday where about 80 volunteers will launch boats from Shelvin Rock Access while removing trash along the way. The float will travel approximately six miles to the takeout at Hootentown Canoe Rental and Campground.

“Everyone plays a part in keeping the James and other local, Ozarks waters clean,” Wilkinson said in a phone interview.
