Shortly after Abby Hipp awoke from surgery on a December afternoon, she reached for her cell phone.
The fifth-year senior who came back for her final year of eligibility had her ACL repaired. The surgery took place while Hipp's Lady Bears teammates were playing their last non-conference game against Toledo.
She wanted to check her phone to see if her team won.
Hipp looked at her mom.
"Have you heard about Jasmine?" her mom asked.
Hipp's heart sank.
Earlier in the day, across town, Franklin laid on the JQH Arena floor in pain.
