What might have been: Republic all-state jumper won't compete at state track and field

Brooke Stanfield attained all-state status as a high jumper for three consecutive years, but she won’t have the chance to go for No. 4 this weekend.

The 2016 Missouri State High School Activities Association Track and Field Championships take place Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City, but a hamstring injury will keep the Republic senior out of the Class 4 meet. Stanfield’s last shot at winning a state championship has been taken away.

“It’s very frustrating. I’ve gone through days where I’m slowly accepting it and there are others I’m on the verge of a breakdown just because I had such a great chance this year,” Stanfield said.
